Mianus River Park:  Greenwich/Stamford, CT

Directions:  I-95 to Exit 4, turn West up to US1, cross over (road bends to right),
Make 1st Left (Stanwich Ave).  Through two stop signs (keep left, stay on
Stanwich) for approx. 2 to 3 miles.  Look for Caugnewaugh Road on right (white
sign post).  Head down 1/4 mile.  Pull off is on the left.

Description: This park has a tight network of both fire roads and singletrack.
Good for novices and intermediate riders.  The Mianus River runs along the
east side of the property, so it is hard to get lost.  Some climbs, short runs to
bomb down, some tech sections.  Overall a good workout trail with several
interconnected loops.  There are some log obstacles which you can find and
try.  Several carriage roads with singletrack offshoots.
Trail Length: 5-9 miles approximations.

Huntington State Park:  Redding/Bethel, CT

Directions:   Take I-684 to I-84 East to Danbury, Exit 5 to Rt 53 South (Main
Street, Danbury).  Take Rt 302 East through Bethel then get to 58 South.  Make
left up Sunset Hill road (it's up 1 1/2 miles on left).

Description:  Mostly fire road type riding with shorter and longer loops
available.  Several attractive ponds are circled.  There is more and more
singletrack being cut (many are dead end & short loops).  20 miles Singletrack
& Fire Roads
Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate

Pequonnock River Valley:  Trumbull, CT

Directions:  Hutchinson Parkway to Merritt Parkway (exit 25 North toward Danburry.  Or, from I-95 North,
take exit 27A (Rt 8/25 North) in Bridgeport and go towards Rt 25 Trumbull/Danburry.
Take the White Plains Rd / Rt 127 exit off Rt 25, take a left off the ramp, go over the highway bridge and take
the next right (sign says RT 25 South, but that's OK)  Park a half a mile on the left in a commuter parking lot.
The ride begins at the end of the road you turned off, past some ranch houses.

Description:  This entrance takes the rider immediately to single track trails.  Generally trails that stay
toward the river on the West (left) are easier that the web of trails nearer to the expressway.

Babcock Preserve:   Greenwich, CT

Directions:  Hutchinson Parkway North to Merritt Parkway.  Take North Street Exit.  Go North on North Street
about 1.5 miles.  Enterance is on the left (gravel road).

Description:  Though small (only about 6 miles of trails), it was a nice place to ride.   Most trails are
intermediate with only short hills, otherwise flat.  There is a big map at the start.  The yellow trail is the main
one, which loops with other trails branching off of it.  A few logs to hop over to make things interesting.   The
most difficult trail is the red-blazed "Red Swamp Trail", which was quite technical (lots of rock obstacles).

Ninham Mountain Multiple Use Area:  Carmel, NY

Directions:  From center of Carmel, NY (junction of Rt 52 and 301), take Rt 301 for about 1 mile West,
across causeway, to Gipsy Trail Road.  Pass the Putnam County park entrance.  Look for parking lot with
NYS DEP signboard on right.

Description:  While some trails near the parking area are good for intermediate and novices, many
singletrack trails that branch off are intermediate and expert level.  I have never found a map of the area,
and so it is easy to get lost.  Alternatively, you can climb an easy fire road (with a supposed single track
option, that I've never found) to the Ninham fire tower.  On clear days, the tower leads to perhaps the best
view in the area, encompassing NY Skyline, Catskills, Hudson Highlands, etc,.

Fahnestock S.P - Chimney Hill:  Cold Spring, NY

Directions:
Exit the Taconic Parkway at Rt 301, West towards Cod Spring.  Go about 3 miles to left turn at
Dennytown Road.  Parking is about a mile on left.  Trail can be found across Dennytown Road from parking
lot.

Description:  Wide singletrack is good for intermediate riders (some might have trouble at rock stream
crossing).  Just past stream, turn left on wide singletrack, that rolls nicely.  When you get to a pine forest in
about 2 miles, take a sharp left uphill.  Climb (not too steep) to Chimney Hill lookout, with excellent views of
the Hudson Highlands.  To complete a loop, descend back to the Pine Forest.  There you will go left
(almost straight).  This section of trail is more challenging.  Some tight rock terrain to Indian Road.  Take
dirt road right, ten Dennytown left back to parking.  (Total loop of about 9 miles).

Stewart Airport Buffer Lands:  Newburgh, NY

Directions:
Take I-84 to RT 207 South between Stewart Airport and Maybrook, look for the green gate on
the side of the road.

Description:  I don't know the area that well (can't wait to go back), but what I've found is lots of old dirt
roads that lead to fast singletrack with some technical sections and steep climbs.  There is truly something
for everyone here.  An intermediate rider can spend many hours here.  Easy to get lost though.  Must be
avoided in late Fall, during hunting season.
